Committee members discussed maintenance for trails and an update to the mowing contract.
The chair said the town is about halfway through a three‑year contract with J and J that includes trails mowing and that the contract runs through the end of fiscal year 2027. “We’re halfway through a 3 year contract with J and J, which includes trails mowing,” the chair said. The chair told members the recreation department will take over the mowing at the end of that contract (June 30, 2027) and asked staff to provide the contract language and any associated maps so the committee can understand the scope.
Members pressed whether future mowing work will require a formal bid or whether it can be secured through quotes; the chair and others said it is likely below formal bid thresholds and may be procured with quotes, but asked Travis and DPW to confirm. The chair also asked that Ward Road be included in trail mowing at least once or twice a year, consistent with prior practice.
Committee direction: staff (Travis) to obtain and circulate the existing J and J contract and provide clarification on procurement approach (quotes vs. formal bid) and a mowing map showing areas and frequencies.
