A Town of Southborough committee said the bid package for Phase 2 of the Peninsula Trail — including a boardwalk and footbridge — has been posted, and a pre‑bid site visit is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m.
“Phase 2 is the bid and the Peninsula Trail, the boardwalk and the footbridge,” the committee chair said, announcing that outreach to firms that had previously pulled the package has already produced interest. The chair said consultant engineering firm Beals & Thomas and the town’s engineers will attend the pre‑bid meeting to answer technical questions.
The committee confirmed the bid due date has been extended to Dec. 10; the chair said the town will open bids at Town Hall at 11 a.m. on that day. “We were successful at moving the due date back to December 10,” the chair said.
Committee members discussed how to review submissions. The chair said Beals & Thomas will examine the low bid for responsiveness and provide a recommendation so the committee can consider awarding and authorize construction in December. The chair asked members to be available for an on‑the‑record bid opening and noted staff will circulate any bidder questions received before the site visit.
Committee members also discussed contingency scheduling if quorum is limited on Dec. 10; they agreed to try to hold the in‑person bid opening at 11 a.m. and to meet the following evening if necessary so all members have a chance to review recommendations together.
Next steps: the town will host the pre‑bid site visit at the advertised time, accept bids through Dec. 10, and expect Beals & Thomas to issue a responsiveness recommendation prior to a formal committee decision and any vote to award the contract.
