The Facilities & Operations Committee recommended the school board approve a slate of construction change orders and contract awards at its November meeting, advancing eight items to the December action meeting.
Committee member and presenter Mr. Slaughter outlined the items: combined GC change orders for Bid Package 1 totaling $34,997.52 (no net cost change to the GC contract), electrical PCOs for the natatorium and turf lighting totaling $11,375.24 (no net cost to the electrical contract), a MICA Mechanical time‑and‑materials change order for heat pump replacements at Penfield Middle School for $15,566.22, and an amendment to Johnson Controls to add $36,142 for additional chiller repairs and a ready‑purge system (raising that contract to $156,531). The committee also recommended awarding the general contracting portion of a districtwide elementary door hardware project to Kelly Brothers LLC for $524,500 and the electrical portion to S and S Electric Services Inc. for $1,566,000; Integrated Security Systems (Genetec) was recommended for a scalable security camera platform at $159,732. Finally, the district recommended accepting a 40‑foot easement from Talmadge Township at the General Nash Elementary School site in exchange for $1 and providing a letter of support for the township’s TASA grant application.
Why it matters: collectively these items adjust construction scope and procurement for the district’s ongoing high‑school renovation and associated campus projects. Mr. Slaughter told the committee the GC and electrical allowances remain in positive balance after the change orders ($368,140.75 and $165,841.62 respectively) and said the Johnson Controls amendment keeps the program well within originally budgeted contingency for that work.
Committee action and next steps: each recommendation was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice/hand vote; the items were placed on the board’s December action agenda. Mr. Slaughter summarized the action list for the board: 3a (GC change orders, $34,997.52), 3b (electrical PCOs, $11,375.24), 3c (MICA Mechanical, $15,566.22), 3d (Kelly Brothers general contract, $524,500), 3e (S and S Electrical contract, $1,566,000), 3f (Integrated Security Systems/Genetec, $159,732), 3g (Talmadge Township easement, $1), and the Johnson Controls amendment adding $36,142. All were recommended to proceed to the board for final approval.
Members had no recorded no votes or abstentions during the committee’s recommendations. The board will take final action at its December meeting.
