The Champaign County Board on Nov. 20, 2025 adopted two resolutions honoring employees: Resolution No. 2025-323 recognized staff reaching 5, 10, 30 and 35-year milestones, and Resolution No. 2025-324 honored retiring county employees including Barbara McLean (county clerk/recorder) for 22 years of service.
During the public-input portion, facilities employee Jason Benda spoke to commend his lead custodian, identified in remarks as Melissa, for consistent hands-on work and informal supervisory responsibilities; he said she "deserves the recognition." Benda described the custodial responsibilities across county facilities and cited examples of the lead custodian’s supportive actions to colleagues and clients.
Board members used the communications period to highlight community services: Jennifer said Cunningham Township and CU PhD coordinated an emergency winter shelter at the Old Armory (Park and 2nd Streets in Champaign) with an open house scheduled the next day from 4 to 5 p.m.; intake will be done through Cunningham Township or Strides and the shelter is not a walk-in facility. JJ reminded the board that free gun locks are available through champagnecountygunsafety.org and encouraged distribution during hunting season.
The board approved the employee resolutions by voice vote and moved on to other business.
