Susan Lockhart said she spent approximately 15 hours at the Grant Line and Galena sites over three days and spoke with each person who signed the petition. She said residents asked why the recycling sites were being closed and that she had no answer because county staff had not provided one. Lockhart told commissioners, "We don't know why it's being shut down." She urged the board to listen to constituents and to keep the Solid Waste Management Department running the recycling program.
President Abel reminded the public that the comment period is not a question‑and‑answer forum and said commissioners are available before or after meetings for one‑on‑one discussions or by appointment. No formal action on the recycling program was taken during the meeting.
