Prosecutor Chris Lane asked the commissioners to approve four contracts for the prosecutor’s office, and the board approved each motion by voice vote.
Lane described two independent‑contractor agreements for certified legal interns who will be sworn in as deputy prosecutors in late October and used as short‑term extenders until they are formally sworn in. He also described a contract with Jackie Clowers to provide outside counsel on a civil forfeiture matter and said that arrangement would cost the county nothing upfront because counsel would receive a percentage of any recovered funds.
Lane discussed a broader evidence‑management arrangement: the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney Council (IPAC) has an agreement with Axon that would allow the prosecutor’s office to interface with Axon to download, store, transcribe and summarize video evidence. Lane said, “It’s not something we particularly want, I’ll be honest, but everyone’s getting it. We need it.” He told the board he plans to use forfeiture funds to pay for the interface and cautioned about multi‑year renewals while noting appropriation controls.
The board approved the contracts individually: the outside counsel agreement with Jackie Clowers, independent‑contractor agreements for Nicholas Vaughn and Abigail Moran, and the Axon Enterprise Incorporated agreement. Commissioners asked procedural questions about bundling and appropriation clauses before voting.
