The Henry County Memorial Park Board voted to cover half the cost of a Duck Island bank stabilization and planting project after reviewing an itemized estimate.

A report presented to the board listed seed mixes at $241.42 and erosion-cloth at $507, for a total of $748.42. Two volunteers (Kathy Conway and Helen Stussy) offered to donate additional seed to supplement the purchase. Speaker 7 moved and Speaker 1 seconded a motion for the park to pay half the vendor estimate, $374.21; the board approved the motion by voice vote.

Installation was scheduled for Dec. 8 with a rain date of Dec. 9. Board members asked staff to request a written maintenance schedule from the vendor (mowing frequency and other upkeep) and to fold those tasks into the park’s preventative maintenance schedule.

The board also discussed watering logistics should rainfall be insufficient; staff said a portable 12-volt pump is available to carry water to the island as needed.

The motion carried and staff will follow up with the vendor for a written maintenance and watering plan.
