The Anniston City Council approved an amended consent agenda that included waiving the Carver Community Center rental fee for First Missionary Baptist Church's scheduled Nov. 23, 2025 event, opened a public hearing on Jared Snyder's appointment to the Downtown Development Authority and then adjourned into executive session to discuss preliminary negotiations.
During a public hearing on the Downtown Development Authority appointment, Jared Snyder, who identified himself as living at 320 Crestview Road in Anniston, thanked the council for the opportunity. "I just wanna say thank you all for having me," Snyder said, adding he and others have been involved downtown for several years and want to contribute to revitalization.
Councilmember Moss publicly thanked Snyder for accepting the appointment and encouraged residents to support small businesses, noting a local "Pink Friday" event and upcoming community activities including a Dec. 6 Christmas parade and an Anniston Police Department toy drive running through Dec. 23.
On procedural business, the council read an ordinance amending Article 7 of the city code governing traffic-control pricing by title only. The item was on its first reading and council members did not take final action tonight.
A motion to amend the consent agenda to waive the Carver Community Center fee for First Missionary Baptist Church's Nov. 23 event was made, seconded and approved by roll call. A subsequent motion to approve the consent agenda as amended likewise passed by roll call.
Late in the meeting a councilmember moved to adjourn into executive session to discuss "preliminary negotiations involving matters of trade or commerce," saying disclosure would have a detrimental effect on the city's competitive position. The mover stated the body "will not be returning to vote on any matter discussed in the executive session." The clerk called the roll and the meeting was adjourned into executive session.
Actions recorded in the meeting included approval of the minutes, the consent-agenda amendment (fee waiver for First Missionary Baptist Church), approval of the consent agenda as amended and a motion to enter executive session. No final ordinance votes were taken on the traffic-control pricing item.
The council scheduled no additional public comment on the ordinance and took no further public votes before adjourning into executive session.
