Board members on Nov. 19 discussed the Department of Public Health’s preapproved RN and LPN refresher providers and expressed unease about the virtual portion of hybrid clinical training. DPH staff explained that refresher-course approvals are a convenience for licensing and that refresher requirements historically were reviewed periodically.

Several board members said they want clearer documentation from ReNurse Academy about how the virtual clinical experience is structured and how hands‑on competencies — particularly medication administration and critical skills — are assured. "It would be good if we could feel a little bit more confident," Lisa Freeman said, adding that the board is on the fence and would like the provider to focus the presentation on the virtual-clinical methodology.

The board asked DPH to invite ReNurse Academy’s director to present both RN and LPN refresher formats and submit the delayed third annual report previously requested. DPH agreed to coordinate the request and said it could include the program’s simulation, assessment and supervision processes when scheduling the presentation.
