Miami Lakes ad hoc anniversary committee approved a minute-by-minute program for the town 25th anniversary celebration that will open with a Scottish bagpipe intro, include a children s national anthem performance, short historical videos and successive cultural acts, and close with a mayor-led cake ceremony followed by fireworks.
Committee members said they expect the program to begin at 4:00 p.m., with a Scottish pipe set followed by the Boy Scouts pledge and a national anthem performance by students from MLK K-8. Short history clips produced by the committee's documentary team will be shown earlier in the program, and a 5:30 p.m. slot was reserved as a catchall for guest speakers or video messages from dignitaries such as Mayor Wayne Slaton or invited state and federal officials.
"At 05:40, we have the DJ playing music and then a short video," said Speaker 3 during the timeline review as the group assigned specific start times for each act. The committee repeatedly emphasized a three-minute cap on performances and videos to keep the timeline moving and to limit the need for re-edits.
Members raised logistical concerns about stage capacity and performer spacing. The planned stage is approximately 32 by 24 feet, and several acts (a 16-person salsa club and a 20-person dance troupe) will require coordination with the band and production crew to ensure safe staging. Committee members asked event staff to confirm how much space each act and the band will need and to provide setup times so performers are not blocked by production equipment.
The committee confirmed ceremonial details: the 25th-anniversary cake will be two-tiered with a visible "25" topper, precut into roughly two dozen slices, and will be presented on stage before a brief mayor-led singing of "Happy Birthday." A fireworks countdown is planned for roughly 7:40 7:50 p.m., with an overall event end time targeted at 8:00 p.m.
Next steps assigned to staff include confirming honor-guard participation, finalizing the historic video to the committee's editorial direction, and producing a contender list of stage-set and spacing options so acts can be scheduled without interference from the production crew.
