Noe, a student at Chiawana High School, used the public-comment period to urge community support for a renewal of the Pasco School District levy. "Levies are for learning," Noe said, arguing the funds provide local resources that "help Pasco students like me thrive."
Noe listed the staff positions and day-to-day services levy dollars support, saying the revenue pays for "our school resource officers, nurses, custodians, and teaching assistants" and helps keep schools "safe, clean, and welcoming so we can focus on learning." The student also said levy funds enable advanced courses and extracurricular programs, naming art, theater, mariachi, marimba, marching band, orchestra, choir and athletics as examples of offerings sustained by the local levy.
Addressing scale and cost, Noe said, "Did you know that our levy funds about 10% of our entire district budget?" and noted that the district's current levy "expires in 2026." The student characterized the proposal as a renewal rather than a new tax and recited an estimated rate of "$2.17 per 1,000 of assessed property value" to maintain existing services.
Noe closed with a civic appeal: "Please remember to vote in the February." The remarks were delivered as part of the public-comment portion of the meeting and did not include any formal motion or official action by the district during this session.
