Homewood’s City Council on Nov. 24 approved a package of resolutions and permits and set a series of land-use items for formal votes on Dec. 8.

Council approved two contracts tied to the Central Avenue TAP multimodal project after staff reported multiple bids. The low bid, from Avery Landscaping, was $814,145.20; the council approved the Avery contract (motion, passed 5 to 0) and then approved a $117,732 contract with Sain and Associates for construction engineering and inspection, which staff said is also 80% reimbursable through ALDOT because the work qualifies as a TAP project.

The council also approved a temporary closure of the road adjacent to Brookwood Village Mall to allow reconstruction at 600 Brookwood Village (vote recorded as passed 5 to 0), and approved installation of a waterline in Brookwood Boulevard with an indemnification agreement (passed 5 to 0, recorded as resolution 25,202). A citizen request to install a shared toy box for Hot Wheels cars on Morris Boulevard was approved with an indemnification agreement (recorded as resolution 25,201).

Other approvals included three Track Shack weekend events (Dec. 6, 13 and 20; music and hot chocolate) with indemnification (resolution 25,203), payment of vouchers for Nov. 11–Nov. 24 (resolution 25,204), and an ABC restaurant retail liquor license for Los Valadores Mexican Food at 304 Columbiana Road (no letters of objection from police or fire; council approved 5 to 0). The council also approved a request from Acting City Manager Cale Smith to prepare tiered year-end employee bonuses contingent on the city closing FY24–25 with a general fund surplus; the council voted to approve the measure (recorded as resolution 25,205), noting the payout is contingent on final fiscal-year results.
