The Streator City Council on Monday adopted Ordinance 20 25 44 to annex portions of the Circle Drive subdivision into city limits, with the annexation set to take effect Jan. 1, 2026. The council moved and seconded the ordinance, and the clerk recorded unanimous votes in favor.
Council members and staff said the Jan. 1, 2026 effective date was selected so newly annexed properties would not receive a city tax bill for 2025. The mayor reported coordination with the county supervisor of assessments and said the petition had completed the required court process. City staff also noted that city trash service through Waste Management would begin Jan. 1, 2026.
The ordinance was introduced during the council's action-item segment and carried on a recorded roll call. Council members who voted in favor were recorded by the clerk as casting affirmative votes.
The council did not amend the ordinance during the meeting. The next procedural steps are implementation of service transitions and updating the city’s tax and billing records so the effective date and billing cycle align with the council's direction.
