The Twin City Air Transportation Authority adopted a formal weapons policy after staff described an incident in which someone attempted to bring a machete onto a bus.
Staff proposed a general prohibition on weapons of any kind while on authority-owned, leased, or controlled property and on vehicles, stating the ban applies regardless of whether an individual possesses a concealed-weapons permit. The proposal allows the board to authorize trained personnel, such as contracted security, to carry weapons when the executive director determines it is necessary for safety and security purposes.
The draft also addresses everyday items that could be perceived as weapons such as scissors or small kitchen knives: those items should remain in original packaging and be fully stowed in a bag or container while on vehicles. Staff said the authority will add decals and signage after the policy is approved.
A motion to adopt the policy was moved by Trustee Jackson and seconded by Trustee Robinson; roll call recorded all trustees voting yes and the motion carried.
