The Story County Board of Supervisors honored Marcy Hunter Montgomery on Nov. 25 for 28 years of service with the county's dispatch operation.

Sheriff Fitzgerald, speaking at the county meeting, said Marcy “has been around quite a while” and commended her long tenure in emergency communications. The sheriff noted dispatchers often speak with people in crisis and that having a “calm, reassuring voice” is crucial to getting help to callers.

Board members joined in thanking Montgomery for her work, saying dispatch is essential and noting the personal toll and public value of that role. The board presented Montgomery with a plaque and posed for photographs.

No formal action was required; the recognition occurred early in the meeting and was followed by routine business.
