The Seven Hills City Council approved two zoning variance requests during its Nov. 25 meeting after they were recommended by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The first variance concerns 1163 East Park Haven Drive, where resident Janet Burns sought permission for a proposed 6-foot-high vinyl fence to sit 24 feet forward of the rear building line, citing safety concerns (children accessing the yard under an open deck and neighbor dogs). The zoning board voted unanimously in favor of the variance, finding the practical difficulty was not self-made. Council took the motion and approved the variance on roll call.
The second matter, for 4265 (Chestnut Road), involved Greg and Lisa Edwards seeking replacement of a detached garage so it would be 1 foot off the side-yard lot line with a height of 20 feet. Zoning board minutes (11/12/2025) showed unanimous support; the council corrected an agenda transcription discrepancy about the measurement and then approved the variance after confirming the board’s 5–0 recommendation.
During the Burns discussion Mayor Biasellata remarked, "I think it's a slam dunk," reflecting council support for the safety rationale. Both variance approvals were recorded by roll call immediately after the board recommendations.
