LaSalle's police chief told the finance committee that the department has begun using a new CAD/RMS system with an evidence-management module and plans to hire Fortress Plus Solutions to inventory and audit the department's evidence room.

The chief said the vendor will digitize evidence records, barcode property packages and integrate the inventory into the CAD/RMS evidence module to improve tracking and chain-of-custody. The audit and inventory service was quoted at $9,203. The chief proposed funding the work from the drug-seizure fund and characterized the evidence room as a "high risk, high liability" space that requires better recordkeeping.

The committee received the update as informational; no formal vote on funding was recorded during the meeting. The chief said staff will keep the council apprised of progress and that the new system will allow barcode scanning to trace evidence more reliably.
