Brene Brix, co‑vice president of the Northshore Council PTSA, told the school board on Nov. 24 that the council voted Nov. 17 to support the Northshore School District’s educational programs and operations levy renewal, a technology levy renewal and a capital bond that will be on the February ballot.
"Washington State continues to fall short of funding fully funding K‑twelve education and our students feel the impact every day," Brix said, urging parents and PTAs to get involved. She named two upcoming advocacy opportunities: a regional Educational Funding Crisis town hall on Jan. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m., which will bring together students, families, educators and state leaders, and Washington State PTA’s Focus Day in Olympia on Jan. 19.
Brix also announced that Northshore Council had purchased a parent‑map license in partnership with the Northshore Schools Foundation to make educational talks available to district parents and guardians. Topics announced for upcoming talks include "Inside the ADHD Mind: Tools to Help Your Child Thrive" on Jan. 21 by Dr. Sasha Hamandy.
Colleen Ponto, a trustee at Cascadia College, used the association portion of the meeting to promote the college’s Pay It Forward scholarship event on Feb. 25 and said the college continues to see enrollment growth.
Why it matters: The council’s formal endorsement signals organized community and PTA support for the district’s funding measures and outlines volunteer‑led outreach and advocacy efforts ahead of the February ballot. The board heard the comments during the association and public‑comment period; no formal board action on the measures occurred at this meeting.
What’s next: The measures will appear on the February ballot; PTA leaders urged attendance at the Jan. 7 regional town hall and Jan. 19 Focus Day in Olympia.
