The Ball Chatham CUSD 5 board approved multiple safety and operations items during its Nov. 19 meeting, including a new school resource officer position, purchase of cameras for the transportation department, acceptance of a golf-cart donation and the sale of the former district office.
Dr. Layman said the board approved 'a new position for the district, a school resource officer. This is in collaboration with the village of Chatham. An officer will be assigned to us on student attendance days to support our safety and security measures and to strengthen that program for the district.' The transcript does not record a mover, seconder or vote tally for the approval.
The board also approved 'the use of about $6,000 for the purchase of cameras for the transportation department' to support operations. In other business, the board approved the sale of the old district office at 201 West Mulberry to the Village of Chatham and accepted a donated golf cart to help students in structured classrooms travel to GES and the district office in poor weather.
The approvals were presented as routine consent or operational items; the district said follow-up logistics (assignment of an officer, camera procurement and closing the sale) will proceed through the appropriate departments.
