Peoria County’s committee approved the 2026 risk management and excess insurance renewal as presented by Angela. She told the committee the total 2026 premiums would be "just over 1,400,000," an increase of about $97,000 or 7.1% over 2025. The package includes multiple lines of coverage such as general liability, property, cyber, and medical professional liability.
Staff recommended moving the general liability program to a carrier called Metis, which would provide $10,000,000 in coverage for a premium of just over $700,000. For cyber liability, staff recommended Coalition, which offers a substantially lower premium and would reduce the per‑event deductible from $250,000 to $50,000 while delivering enhanced cybersecurity services. Angela said the reduction in medical professional premiums reflects fewer patient encounters after the county’s dental services were restructured and that the package includes coverage for a forensic pathologist the coroner’s office plans to hire in 2026.
Committee members sought clarification that dental services were not eliminated but transferred to another provider, which staff confirmed. After discussion the committee voted to approve the 2026 renewal.
Next steps: Risk management and finance will finalize carrier contracts and policy documents and report back with binding documentation and premium schedules.
