The Scottsburg Board of Public Works and Safety on Nov. 20 approved the city's 2026 insurance renewal, accepting a proposal from Foundation Risk Partners after a presentation outlining coverages and premiums.
An insurance representative told the board the package renews previously negotiated limits and deductibles and that overall premiums rose only modestly in the current market. The presentation listed key protections including inland marine for equipment, commercial auto coverage, an umbrella policy layering over auto and liability, police professional liability coverage, public officials liability, cyber liability and workers'compensation. The presenter said cyber liability will remain at $1,000,000 with a $25,000 deductible and characterized the carrier as "the most competitive" available to the city.
Board members credited staff for keeping asset records and risk controls current, which the representative said helped limit premium growth. The presenter noted an "overall premium" change of roughly 2.18% compared with the prior year and highlighted the city's low experience modification for workers' compensation despite a recent large claim.
After questions, a motion to move forward with Foundation Risk Partners and complete the necessary paperwork passed on an "aye" vote. No changes to coverages or deductibles were adopted at the meeting.
The approval leaves in place the presented limits and terms; staff will receive the renewal documents and the mayor was to sign the required forms.
Next steps: staff will file the signed renewal paperwork with the insurer and circulate final premium documentation to the board.
