Prince William County School Board members certified the board's closed session and approved a set of actions taken in private at their Nov. 18 meeting.
Vice Chair Tracy Blake moved to enter and later to certify a closed session held under the Virginia code sections cited by the board to discuss personnel matters, religious-exemption requests for specific students, probable or actual litigation, and security issues. After returning to open session, the board adopted the certification resolution by recorded vote.
The board then approved a series of closed-session action items. Vice Chair Tracy Blake moved that the board approve appointments and releases of specific employees as presented in closed session; the motion passed in the roll call noted on the record. Blake also moved to approve two requests for religious exemptions from compulsory school attendance, case numbers RE25-18 and RE25-19, and the board voted to grant those exemptions.
Later in the same block, board members voted to authorize recommended actions by division legal counsel that had been discussed in closed session.
Meeting minutes and the motions recorded in the public record show the votes on those items were carried in recorded tallies reported by the clerk during the open meeting.
The board did not discuss personnel names, the substance of the litigation, or the details of the religious-exemption requests in open session; those matters were handled in accordance with the closed-session motion the board cited.
