During the public comment period at the Nov. 25 meeting, resident Clifford Paul Marmes asked the Board of Commissioners to consider a county property-tax exemption for residents aged 90 and older.

Marmes said he visits several nonagenarians who face increased expenses for care and that any county relief would be helpful. He suggested county tax records could identify who qualifies and said he plans to present a similar request to the Board of Education regarding the school tax.

The board did not take immediate action on the request during open session; the item was presented as public comment and will require a formal agenda item for any change in tax policy.
