Carl Pinkston of the Black Parallel School Board testified in support of the policy updates but urged additional clarifications: extending prohibitions on willful defiance to expulsion, clearer limits on law‑enforcement notification in school incidents, and more parent‑friendly procedural safeguard materials. Board members said they intend to continue refining administrative regulations to address operational detail and parental access to rights information.

The board adopted the policies with a modification to policy 5144.1 to add 'or expelled' in the section that forbids suspension for willful defiance. The board emphasized these policies establish guardrails and that staff will prepare the regulatory and implementation materials the policies require.
