The Aberdeen City Council on Nov. 24 approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone property at 119 Washington Street North from C-3 to R-3, allowing the parcel to be used as a single-family residence. Ken, a city planning staffer, told the council the property is a nuisance vacant residence recently purchased by a new owner who plans to renovate it and "bring it into compliance as a single family residence." Planning Commission recommended approval on Nov. 18 and staff recommended the council approve the petition.

Councilman Johnson moved for approval and Councilman Nilsen (second) supported the motion. Jordan conducted a roll call vote; each listed council member recorded "aye" and the motion carried on first reading.

Next step: this was recorded as a first reading; the ordinance will return for a subsequent reading per the city's standard ordinance process.
