A group of board members, district staff and community volunteers will start replacing the greenhouse roof on the C Building at MDHS tomorrow morning, the board was told. The work is planned as a roughly two-day effort: stripping and installing ice-and-water shield, followed by shingling, with crew members returning as needed to finish and clean up.
"We'll be starting a new roof, or replacing the roof rather, on the greenhouse tomorrow morning starting at about 7AM," an unnamed board speaker said, describing a plan to finish the bulk of the work over two days. The board said materials and a roll-off dumpster are already on site; the only outstanding logistic noted was delivery of a porta-potty.
Community members and staff credited local businesses and donors. Speaker 6 thanked volunteers and said, "About 10:00, I'll have some Dunkin' Donuts and coffee. And I will provide you with an Andy's menu and ask you all to place your orders, and we will get lunch for you for tomorrow." The board also reported Hammond Lumber provided reduced-cost supplies (a savings the board described as about $750) and that Leah's employer pledged $999.99 worth of sheathing if re-sheathing is required.
Tim's company (referred to in the meeting as Broadco Builders) is scheduled to supply labor; board members said Tim's boss also donated two workers for the day. Speaker 1 noted that donated labor exceeding $1,000 must be formally accepted by the board because it meets the district's threshold for reporting and tax-letter documentation.
Board members, staff and community speakers framed the effort as both practical and symbolic. "This is the way we build community trust," one speaker said, urging that volunteer projects show the district is working to improve facilities without immediately asking taxpayers for funds. Several speakers also encouraged interior cleanup while the dumpster is on site and asked staff to tag items that can be discarded.
No formal board action was recorded during the discussion; the item was presented as an update and as an agenda item to receive and accept the over-$1,000 in-kind donation at a later time. The meeting adjourned at about 6:07 p.m.
