The Washington County Sheriff’s Office presented its October 2025 monthly activity report to the Commissioners Court on Nov. 25, detailing crime, arrests, jail population and staffing.
The sheriff reported Group A offenses totaled 14 with an 86% clearance rate and seven arrests; Group B offenses were 41 with a 61% clearance rate. Overall, the office reported a 67% clearance rate for 55 offenses recorded in October. Jail bookings decreased from 98 to 94 and average daily population was reported near 95.8. The sheriff noted six vacancies in the law enforcement division, including five in patrol and one in CID.
Crash statistics showed a notable increase: motor vehicle crashes rose from 39 to 55 in October, the highest monthly total so far in the year. The sheriff said a heat map presented at a recent town hall showed crash concentration on Highway 290 east of town and commissioners requested similar mapping for regular reporting.
The sheriff also described personnel development steps: four jailers will attend the police officer academy beginning Jan. 1 (a six-month academy) and the office is preparing to backfill those positions. Commissioners and staff discussed staffing, vacancies and the operational impacts of training and mobility.
The presentation closed with an invitation to pursue geographic heat maps for crashes and other calls to better target enforcement and public-safety resources.
