County to back INDOT roundabout funding applications at two intersections

Madison County commissioners agreed to provide letters of support for two INDOT funding applications that propose roundabouts at county intersections.
County engineer Jessica Baston told the board INDOT is proposing a roundabout at State Road 13 and County Road 500 North (on the county line) to improve traffic timing and reduce severe crashes. Baston said INDOT had run analyses and selected the projects that best fit the funding criteria.
Baston also described safety and truck‑access concerns at County Road 50 West and State Road 38, noting that the collector designation and GPS routing bring truck traffic to a turn that "cannot accommodate truck traffic right now" and that INDOT's designs have been adjusted to better accommodate trucks and agricultural vehicles. She said the designs address site‑distance issues caused by a hill.
Chair moved and commissioners approved providing letters of support for both projects.
Baston cautioned that funding is not guaranteed and projects are selected each year based on various funding 'buckets' and criteria.
