During the Nov. 21 meeting the Cass County Council approved a series of additional appropriations and intra-budget transfers across departments.
Planning Commission requests to move $1,000 to a Dusen subscription for GIS/E911 users, $700 for garage and motors (vehicle maintenance), and $2,000 for fuel were approved by voice vote. The Health Department's requests — $8,500 to complete funding for a nurse through the end of the year and $3,156.42 to cover workers' compensation and related payroll costs — were also approved.
The council addressed several transfers among accounts to reconcile contractual services, deputies, social security and office supplies. After discussion and line-by-line reconciliation staff presented transfers totaling $12,350; the motion to approve carried.
Superior Court requested funding for law books and related items totaling approximately $50,300 across accounts; council approved the transfers and appropriations after verifying account sources.
The Sheriff's Office presented approximately $73,000 in transfers/appropriations related to jail operations, and the Cass County Jail requested $22,532 for supplies and stock. Council discussed jail population (about 143, including roughly 30 from Howard County) and approved the requests by voice vote.
Council concluded with a brief public comment period (no substantive public remarks) and adjourned.
Staff will complete the accounting entries and publish final appropriations and transfer amounts in official minutes.
