The committee approved Ordinance 14-02-2025, which authorizes hiring consultants and seeking additional grants to implement pedestrian improvements on Euclid Avenue from Upper Valley Drive to Ivanhoe Road.
Commissioner Rob Mavic and the director said the city received $500,000 in TLCI implementation funds from NOACA and is seeking additional safety funding to realize a fuller scope of pedestrian and signal improvements. "The scope here is aspirational and we will apply again and hope to get safety funding over the wintertime," staff said.
Councilman Anthony Harrison, whose ward includes the corridor, stressed the safety issues for students and residents and suggested future bond or discretionary funding could be considered to ensure needed elements are built. Councilman Richard Starr moved an amendment requiring written notice to the clerk when cooperative purchases are used; the amendment passed and the ordinance was approved as amended. Staff said final design and funding will be determined as grant outcomes are known.
