Rush County reviews 2026 budget totals and advances related appropriations

Rush County commissioners conducted the second reading of the proposed 2026 budget and reviewed line-item totals across multiple funds during their meeting. Presenters read a series of fund totals including General Fund $10,045,004; Highway $4,416,686; Local Road/Street $1,279,600; Emergency Telephone Systems $1,086,460; Health $502,301; redevelopment capital $7,700; with a presented aggregate of $19,787,392 for a group of funds. A separate subgroup of public-safety and corrections funds was read with a subtotal referenced in the meeting as $5,365,922.

For example, the county is preparing to apply for a Community Crossing grant worth $1,250,000 to repave streets in multiple towns; the county’s share was stated as 20% ($250,000) to be paid from local road construction funds if the grant is awarded. Staff asked permission to file for a 2025 EMTD salary reimbursement rate of $21,006.45, which they said requires no local match beyond the employee’s salary.
