The Mobile City Council on Nov. 25 approved a package of routine city business, appointed a local youth leader to a council advisory body and waived portions of the city’s rules to expedite consideration of consent items.

A voice vote approved the agenda and a motion to waive the rules allowing immediate consideration of several consent resolutions, city clerk records show. The consent package included purchase orders for firefighter courses at Coastal Alabama Community College, bulletproof vests, traffic light poles and related equipment, ammunition, and renewals of licensing and software services for city operations.

The council appointed Alana Williams to the Mobile City Youth Council. The body approved the appointment by voice vote; council members congratulated Williams and noted her cheerleading accomplishments. “Can we get Alana Williams? Can you stand up so everybody can see?” Councilman Corey Penn said as the council recognized the appointee.

Council also approved a waiver of the noise ordinance for events scheduled Nov. 29 at Figures Park and Feb. 22 on Dauphin Island Parkway. The waiver passed on a voice vote after the presiding officer called for support. The meeting record indicates no public opposition was raised during the vote.

Other approved items included a resolution fixing demolition costs on selected properties, purchase orders to vendors including Altec Industries, and an authorized settlement agreement and release of claims. Several items were taken as part of the consent agenda and approved together by voice vote.

The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn passed.

What’s next
Several planning and licensing items were scheduled for public hearing in late December; demolition-cost hearings were opened and closed today with no public speakers, and more detailed hearings on planning cases are set for Dec. 30.
