Commissioners approve road lowering, driveway work at 3624 S. Gadbury to allow turbine transport

Blackford County commissioners on Oct. 20 approved a request from the highway department to allow a contractor to lower a section of Gadbury Road and modify a driveway at 3624 South Gadbury Road so turbine blades can be transported through the area.
John of the county highway department (recorded as "John (Highway Department)") said the work will require cutting the hill and lowering the final roadbed about 14 inches, then restoring 6 to 8 inches of compacted stone and an appropriate asphalt depth. John said the homeowner, Bill Green, attended a site meeting and agreed to the approach.
"They have to cut that down at least 14 inches," John said while describing the required work and added that county staff would inspect and oversee the repairs to ensure proper base and asphalt depth before the asphalt plant closes for the season.
S6 moved to approve the road modification and the associated driveway improvements at 3624 South Gadbury Road; S4 seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. Commissioners said the county would provide oversight but not perform the contractor work itself.
The decision permits the temporary modification necessary for turbine transport, with conditions that the driveway be appropriately reconstructed and inspected once the work is complete.
