The Green Bay Area Public School District board on Nov. 11 considered and rejected a motion to repeal Rule 1.70, which governs appointment of two board members to preside over work session areas. Lynn moved to repeal the rule; after debate the motion did not carry on roll call.
Board discussion split on whether the rule provided meaningful shared leadership or was an unnecessary administrative burden. Lynn and Laura argued the rule was unused and should be removed; Andrew defended keeping a mechanism for shared facilitation and presented a compromise amendment intended to address board concerns.
After the repeal failed, Andrew moved to approve amendments to Rule 1.70 changing language from “preside” to “facilitate,” allowing co-facilitators, decoupling the pairing of board members from superintendent meeting schedules, and clarifying fallback to the board president if neither facilitator is available. The amendment was seconded, online voting opened and the motion carried with all board members voting in favor.
What’s next: The board tabled related changes to Policy 1.70 so staff can compare the newly amended rule to the existing policy text and return with recommended edits.
