During public comment at the Nov. 26 meeting of the Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety, resident Zane Bishop asked whether the city plans to resume a pavement preservation program that includes crack sealing.
Bishop said the city had performed annual pavement preservation under a previous engineer in 2020 and 2021 and that some work occurred in early 2023, but that "since then, it hasn't been done on a large scale across the city." He asked whether the city intended to bring the program back and questioned why the current administration had not continued the prior program.
The presiding official replied, "I'll... look into that. I'll make some contacts, and we'll see what we can do," and thanked Bishop for raising the concern.
The board did not provide a timeline or budget for restarting a citywide crack-sealing program during the meeting. The presiding official indicated staff follow-up would occur.
