The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on Nov. 26 approved $1,599,645 in claims, ratified the Nov. 19 minutes and approved a $3,500 change order to a demolition contract for 1401 South Madison Street.

Board members voted to approve the claims after a city staff presentation. A staff member said the claims packet included "a claim for $63,283.89 for striker" — identified in the meeting as an EMS power cot — as well as routine medical and utilities charges and two down payments that were initially described as $250,000 each for ambulances. "I sent out the claims yesterday afternoon," the staff member said while describing the packet and invited questions. A motion to approve the claims was made and seconded and the board voted to carry the motion.

Nikita Adams of the Office of Community Development presented the change order for the demolition contract at 1401 South Madison Street. Adams said additional hidden concrete was found on the site and contractors needed to perform extra loads, and that the change "is 3,500, bringing the original contract of $14,715 up to 19,215." A board member moved approval, it was seconded and the board voted in favor.

After the change-order vote a staff member clarified an earlier point about down payments: the two $150,000 payments referenced were for fire trucks, not ambulances. "Those were on fire trucks," the staff member said, adding the prior reference to ambulances was in error.

The board also moved and approved the minutes from the Nov. 19 meeting without further comment. With no additional business the presiding official adjourned the meeting.
