Student leaders presented the high school’s November activities at the Nov. 24 West Valley board meeting, highlighting veteran outreach, student-led fundraisers and college-access events.
Katie Champy and Georgia Bond, introduced by board staff as student ASB representatives, said the school’s Veterans Day assembly included more than 21 veterans who visited classes and spoke with students. They described the assembly and a morning reception with donuts and coffee for guests.
Champy and Bond also described student-led activities including a breast-cancer fundraiser in which students voted at lunch to 'keep it or cut it' to determine whether a teacher, identified in the transcript as Mr. Matczak, would have his hair cut; the fundraiser concluded with the teacher’s haircut in front of the school. The students reported a First Follies variety show, leadership workshops (ASB attendance at a conference in Toppenish), two financial-aid help nights hosted in the high school library, an on-site SAT offering, and a CWU visit that provided immediate admissions to qualifying seniors.
Board members thanked the students for their report and noted enthusiasm for winter sports and continued student engagement.
