Amy White, a member of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors representing the Buchanan District, announced the board would consider agenda item 22a, a request from Wesley Hodges to remove the word "temporary" from conditions on a previously issued special exception permit (SEP) for a campground.
Staff explained the SEP initially limited the campground’s duration until either construction of a bed-and-breakfast on the property or Oct. 31, 2025, whichever came first. Planning staff said Hodges has operated the campground successfully with no noise complaints and had also been granted a bed-and-breakfast SEP; the planning commission unanimously recommended striking the temporary condition.
The board opened the public hearing and heard no members of the public speak. Following a motion to remove only the word "temporary" from the SEP conditions, the supervisors voted in favor and the motion passed.
The action allows Hodges to continue operating the campground under the existing SEP conditions without the earlier temporal limit. Staff noted the other conditions attached to the SEP remain in effect.
