Commissioner Johnna announced that Kingman Main Street has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Preserve Route 66 combined grant program to support restoration of the Hotel BL neon sign. She said the National Trust is supportive and that the funds are expected to help Kingman Main Street raise matching funds from other grant sources.
"It’s a pleasure to inform you that Kingman Main Street has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Preserve Route 66 combined grant program 2025 to support your KMS Historic Hotel, Beale neon sign restoration project," Commissioner Johnna said to the commission.
Chair Pro Tem then invited newly appointed commissioner Thompson Kinney to introduce herself. Kinney described local roots and her family’s preservation history: "I'm a sixth generation kid and, born and raised...My grandmother, Noreen Reichert...was really involved in the fire ladies...she was instrumental in saving the Bonelli house and making sure that was turned into a museum," Kinney said. She said she returned to Kingman about nine years ago and is eager to work on preservation matters.
Commissioners also requested follow-up items: bringing the Lewis Kingman Park silhouette project to the heritage group, arranging an on-site walkthrough of Palo Christi with superintendent Gretchen Dorner, and inviting the Heritage Aviation Museum to present to the commission at a future date.
