The Plainview ISD Board of Trustees approved a one-time $500 discretionary retention incentive for permanently employed district staff for the 2025–26 school year, administrators said. The board voted 6-0 to approve the payment after staff explained the incentive is funded by higher attendance percentages that increase state funding.
Administrators reviewed district attendance improvements and said higher attendance produced additional state revenue that can be used for the incentive. Examples cited by administration included Plainview High School rising from 92.3% to 95.1% and other campuses showing similar gains. The superintendent told the board the improved attendance "allows us to be able to provide that $500 retention incentive," and that the district expects to fund the payment from those attendance-linked revenue changes.
Officials said the incentive applies to all permanently employed staff (including custodians and long-term vacancy substitutes who meet eligibility dates and sign an intent to return), that eligible employees must have been employed by a cutoff date specified in the plan, and that the payment (estimated total cost $365,000) will be distributed in December separate from payroll. Board members expressed support for the proposal and the motion carried unanimously.
Next steps: Administration will implement the eligibility verification and disbursement process described to trustees and share specifics with staff and campuses; no additional board action was recorded in this meeting.
