Committee members provided updates on local housing developments and pipeline-related construction during the planning discussion.
Charlie Ortman described a large housing proposal near Beazer: "The 130 to a 150 unit apartment complex on Beazer across from a police station, that's a go," he said, adding that some related TIF‑supported housing options near Beazer School remain under discussion.
Members also discussed Enbridge activity near Marengo. One member said Enbridge intends to begin digging in February and described the temporary workforce camp that could be converted afterward. "It's actually a camp... it's gonna be a campground afterwards," Dan Grady said; another member noted the site is being set up with pads, electric, sewer and water so the eventual owner could operate it as a campground or rezone it as a mobile-home park. A county staffer said a court challenge over DNR permits is pending and a judge is expected to rule within 30 to 60 days.
The committee noted that most housing growth is expected in the city and that development timelines and legal proceedings (including the pending court ruling) will affect when projects may proceed. Members asked staff to follow up with clearer timelines and to report back at future meetings.
