The Wallingford‑Swarthmore School District considered and advanced an equity policy during its Nov. 20 meeting. Superintendent Dr. Johnson and policy committee members said the policy grew from a previously discussed equity statement and is intended to put a formal framework before the policy committee for review and adoption.
The policy sets out roughly 10 provisions designed to ensure equitable student experiences, including equitable administration of school‑based discipline, maintaining high academic standards, ensuring access to advanced and specialized academic programs, and promoting welcoming, inclusive school environments. Board members praised the committee’s work and noted student input was considered in shaping language.
A board member emphasized that codifying the policy is a way to "put a stake in the ground" on the district's commitments; the policy was included in the meeting policy agenda and moved forward in the adoption process as recorded in the minutes.
