Sheriff's Office thanks council for $5.7M jail investment, cites staff retention and safety

"Your $5,700,000 capital investment in our aging jail is transformative," Baron said, adding that the work will replace a failing fire-alarm system and create a state-of-the-art medical clinic to improve safety for staff, inmates and visiting members of the public. He framed the council's actions as supporting dignity, retention and the ability to attract qualified staff, and asked the council to recognize the contribution to public safety.
Council members acknowledged the Sheriff's Office and invited the sheriff and deputies to join the dais for a photo. The presentation was informational; no additional legislative action was taken during the meeting on the jail project beyond the acknowledgement and thanks requested by the presenter.
