At the Dec. 2 meeting, the Fitchburg School Committee voted on several action items.
The committee unanimously approved action item 24435 to permit the high‑school VEX robotics team to travel to Sutton, New Hampshire, on Jan. 11 (motion to approve by a committee member and seconded; vote unanimous). The superintendent said Dawn Marshall will present a fuller robotics update in February.
The committee then approved action item 24436 to submit two grant applications: a School Nutrition Equipment Assistance grant for $20,000 and an FY25 Playful Learning Institute pre‑K–3 grant of up to $175,000 (motion by a committee member; seconded; unanimous vote).
Action item 24437 was approved unanimously to accept four grants the administration had described: Acceleration Academies ($22,000) for McAuliffe/Longsjo academic supports, a Mass Cultural Council award ($5,000) for multicultural events, a Rethinking Discipline Initiative grant ($40,000) to support district discipline work and help complete a district‑wide code of conduct, and a private Open SciEd Massachusetts grant ($500) to support open‑science curriculum at the middle school level.
Finally, the committee moved, seconded and voted unanimously to enter executive session to discuss contract negotiations with the FEA; a roll call was taken and the committee said it would reconvene only to adjourn the public meeting.
