The Elkhart Historic and Cultural Preservation Commission on Nov. 20 reviewed two Certificates of Appropriateness that staff had already approved for roof replacements in the city’s historic district.
Kyle, a staff member, presented details for applicant 25COA-09 at 234–236 Division Street, saying the project would remove existing three-tab asphalt shingles on the south and west ends and replace them with Storm Master tier architectural asphalt shingles and install ice-and-water shield. "The proposed roof shingle replacement is similar to the existing shingles and meet the historic district guidelines for material and profile," Kyle said, and noted that the work had been approved by staff (Deb) on Oct. 29, 2025.
Kyle also described applicant 25COA-10 at 226 State Street, which proposes removing three-tab asphalt shingles and replacing them with IKO Dynasty Beacon architectural shingles, adding a membrane system on low-lying roof areas and installing ice-and-water shield. "All proposed work meets the historic district guidelines and is approved by staff," Kyle said, with staff approval recorded on Nov. 6, 2025.
Commission members raised no questions about either staff approval during the meeting. Earlier in the session the commission approved its meeting agenda and minutes from the Oct. 16 meeting, and voted to adopt a 2026 meeting calendar that keeps meetings on the third Thursday of each month.
