Public commenters and several councilmembers questioned the cost, whether the Fire Station 2 location was optimal for return on investment, and whether alternative locations (notably 79 & Main Street) or lower‑cost designs could achieve the town’s goals. Councilmembers repeatedly expressed concern that the proposed design appeared "over‑designed" and that the town lacked clear guidance, budget constraints existed in the CIP, and the utility/electrical costs could further raise total expense.
Given those concerns, Councilmember Adams (Vice Mayor) moved to disapprove item 14c and to send the matter back to a future work session for further study; the motion passed unanimously. Council instructed staff to provide clearer cost breakdowns by component (LED display vs. base/foundation/electrical) and to return with alternatives and site‑specific utility cost estimates.
