Board authorizes ambulance/fire billing addendum; new state‑funded ambulance arriving in December

Wythe County supervisors on Nov. 12 authorized staff to execute an addendum with the county’s ambulance billing vendor to begin billing for fire and wreck calls in addition to ambulance transports.
County staff explained the addendum would extend the existing AMB ambulance‑billing arrangement to cover wrecks and fires once the county’s ESO data feed is active. Staff said the vendor will charge a flat $25 fee for each billable call and emphasized that not every call is billable; for example, assistance calls that do not generate a billable transport would not be billed.
“Not every call is billable call... So, we’ll sort through and send… the calls that can be billed, and then they’ll charge us $25 per billable call,” staff said. The board authorized staff to proceed and approved the addendum by roll call.
Staff also pointed out a new county medic ambulance was parked outside the meeting room; the vehicle was delivered recently, is being outfitted, and was funded about 70% with state dollars. Staff estimated the ambulance would be licensed and operational probably in early December.
Chair praised the county’s EMS and related responders after recounting a recent rescue operation and thanked chiefs and staff for their work.
