Miss Williams told the board the Appalachian Power Foundation award is intended to fund “fairly high‑tech mannequin equipment, as well as pediatric and adult airway training equipment” for the county’s EMS education program and recommended accepting the award and amending the budget accordingly.
On the litter‑prevention grant, staff outlined planned purchases including bear‑proof trash cans for Millers Creek and Kins Lane and educational materials for school outreach. The memo noted the recycling grant was competitive; the board approved acceptance and an amendment to the budget.
Board members voiced support for the litter prevention purchases, with one supervisor noting that previously purchased bear‑proof containers had significantly reduced litter in another area. Both grant acceptances passed by roll‑call vote.
