Town adds new multiuse vessel; enforcement boat recovered and scheduled for repair

Town harbor staff told the Anchorage Advisory Committee on Nov. 24 that the town has acquired a new 26-foot landing-craft–style vessel and that a recovered enforcement boat will be repaired and returned to service.
"We took ownership of, the new the new town town vessel," Curtis Ludwig said, describing a sea trial in Morgan City, Louisiana and the overland trailer transport back to Fort Myers Beach. The new craft is meant to service mooring balls, operate in shallow water and support other marine-operations tasks; staff said final outfitting, Coast Guard safety gear and registration remain before the vessel is fully operational.
Curtis also updated the committee on the previously stolen enforcement 17-foot Carolina skiff: "we recovered it... we're gonna get it serviced," and the boat is scheduled to go to Fishtail Marina on Dec. 8 for engine tuning and parts replacement. The town plans housekeeping changes to the fleet, moving the new craft into primary service and retiring or reassigning the pontoon used for maintenance.
Committee members asked about electronics and slip locations; Curtis said the new boat arrived with required fittings from the builder and that the recovered enforcement boat will be berthed at a slip at Fishtail Marina to improve South End presence and response times.
What’s next: staff will report on final outfitting, registration and the Dec. 8 maintenance work for the recovered boat at the next meeting.
