The Boyertown Area School District board on its November meeting heard an overview of how the recently approved state budget affects the district’s 2025–26 finances. "So the state approved their budget," an administration spokesperson said, summarizing allocations for basic education and special education and noting a net increase of roughly $150,000 compared with what the district had anticipated.
The administration emphasized a major policy change to charter-school funding: a prior state payment that the district received was eliminated and replaced with a revised tuition-calculation formula that may include deductions for cyber charter enrollments. The district estimated potential savings in charter-related expenditures in the mid‑teens percentage range once the state releases the required forms and data. "Once the forms are released, we'll be able to get a better sense of that," the presenter said.
The budget also creates a $100 million competitive facilities infrastructure grant program for critical projects, with a minimum project cost of $500,000. The district said it will consider HVAC and other capital projects for that pool but cautioned that award amounts and ranking criteria are determined by the state and are not yet public. Administration recommended preparing an application for projects that meet the "critical infrastructure" definition.
Officials noted another change: schools will be required to accept cash for admissions and may not pass noncash processing fees on to patrons. The board discussed the district’s overall revenue mix, with the administration noting that roughly 70% of the district’s budget comes from local revenues, making the district less dependent on state aid than many others. The board did not take final action related to the state budget during the meeting; administration said further analysis will follow and the district will file any competitive grant applications it pursues.
Next steps: administration will review the state's implementation materials when they are released and identify specific projects to include in any facilities grant application.
